Grand Knight Message

My Brother Knights we begin a new fraternal year.  Your Officers and Program Chairmen as well as Directors have already started planning a fun and filled year.  As we approach the beginning of this New Year I would like to again thank all of you for what we accomplished last year.  A quick view, we as a council achieved double star council by increasing our membership by 21 new members.  We collected over $10,000.00 dollars in our Mentally Challenged Campaign, Our golf tournament brought in close to $3000.00 and we will award 4 charities a check for $1000.00 each.  The Diaper drive we assisted Right to Life ministry with was a huge success.  We gave St Marks $2250.00.  We collected and gave $1000.00 to Veterans through contributions for Poppies on Veterans Day. We started Texas Holdem, had a wonderful family picnic and our Formal Christmas Dinner Dance.  The Jazz festival was a great hit for all who attended and not to forget our great magnet sales - what better way to send a message to mankind,  Keep God in America.  None of this would have been achieved without the work of every Knight in our Council. We can stand tall and know that we practiced the principles of Charity as shown in the numbers above, in Unity because we worked together to achieve all of our accomplishments and in Fraternity, keeping in the guidelines of this great fraternal organization.  Yes I believe each of you can be proud to be Knight of Columbus and to be a member in Council 14222, St Paul the First Hermit.

We have a lot to do this year and many of you will be asked to participate.  I know you will be there as always.  You will answer the call to be a part of this great upcoming year. Look in your heart and find that one program that you are passionate about, charge it with all you have and make it a success. And when asked to give, give from your heart, as only a Knight can give. God Bless all of you and your families.

Installment of Officers – We will have our Installment Ceremony on Wednesday, July 20th.  It will start at 6pm in the Chapel at ST Marks.  After the Installment our Ladies Auxiliary has planned a special meal for us.  We will also be presenting our checks for Charities and some awards for members.  Please come and support your new officers and bring your spouse as we enjoy some time together in our Church hall.  This will replace our usual Wednesday business meeting.  I hope to see all of you there in a display of Blue Council shirts.  Officers must wear coat and tie!

Florida State Web Site – P;ease take the time to go to KofC Florida State Website, I would like of all of you would register and be sure to put your council#.  The site is fsckc.org.  Our newsletter and a lot of good information can be found for all Knights.  I would like to especially see all Officers and Directors and Chairmen using this site.

Texas Holdem – Needs the support of all Knights.  This fundraiser has helped increase the funds available for our charitable contributions by $2770.00 year to date. Only 2 Knights are needed to run this program.  Special thanks to Brother Knights Mario DeVito and Greg Bachel for their work. But we need more players so grab your friends, tell your neighbors or please come support this activity and enjoy a fun evening.

Pie Contest with Grand Prize

We are having and old-fashion baked pie contest.  The winner and their family will receive a 3-1/2 to 4 hour cruise on the Yacht, Here fishy, Fishy, on the Harris Chain of Lakes, with St. Timothy Grand Knight Larry Finneran and his wife, Katy.  We will schedule to accommodate the winners as well as we can. The cruise will include a wonderful float up and down the Dora Canal, and if we do this on a Saturday or Sunday, we will go to Tavares to watch the seaplanes take off and land.  Lunch will be provided at one of the shore-side restaurants.  If the winner has children younger than five arrangements will have to be made to leave them with a sitter.  Life jackets for five and older will be provided, and all children 12 and younger will have to wear a life jacket at all times-Captain Quinn's Law.  The method of choosing the winner has not been decided yet, but it will be fair, our Grand Knight guarantees it. The Yacht, Here Fishy, Fishy, is a 22' pontoon boat-just so you know.

Ladies Auxiliary

This month’s meeting mostly consisted of reviewing the wonderful accomplishments of our auxiliary and of the Knight’s council this year (as outlined in this newsletter), as well as some of our plans and the plans of the Knights for the upcoming year. Everyone has contributed to these accomplishments and I want to thank each of you for all you do.  As I mentioned in the meeting, the final song that was sung after Mass at the State Convention was “We Are Many Parts” and it moved me so much that I just had to bring it to our meeting.  All of you represent exactly what this song has to say – “We are many parts, we are all one body, and the gifts we have we are given to share”.  Sharing of yourselves just comes so naturally to you, whether it is something for the Knights, for another ministry or for a sick Knight or auxiliary member - you are always there to share the gifts you have been given by God.  God bless you all today and always.  Please don’t forget the installation of officers beginning at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, July 20th.  We will have Mass and installation of officers in the chapel and then move to the hall for our refreshments.  I look forward to seeing you there and also look forward to working together with you all for another year.  Debbie Burke

Right to Life- The Right to Life will be praying the Rosary on July 16th in Ocala in front of the abortion mill.  We as Knights need to do more than just discuss the way the world has changed but be true symbols of Christ and stand up in front of the world and pray a rosary for unborn babies.  Our prayers on that day could, by some miracle, change a young ladies mind who is about to destroy two human lives.  The unborn baby and her own life.  Please support them; prayer starts a 9am.   Please call Brother Knight Wayne Willard for more info at 352-245-9797.

The diaper drive for the Alpha Center for Women has been renamed in the honor of the Knight who was praying and asking St Patrick what he needed to do next in his life, what did the Lord have planned for him?  The answer came and it was to have a diaper drive so he immediately started plans for the first diaper drive at St Mark’s and he found the Alpha Center for Women in Ocala.  This past drive made the 4th one this humble knight organized.  So our next diaper drive in 2012 will be named “The Bill Bolzenius Memorial Diaper Drive”.  Let us all be as humble and Godly in what we stand for and what we do and remember Bill as our example.
